Swans Revisited, My Top Five, Red Sox Parade

Took a few more pictures of the swans today, it's amazing how tame they are. Suppose it's because people are always feeding them! Maybe I'll post another one later when I get time.
Watched the movie "High Fidelity" again and it's got me thinking about my own "All Time Top Five", so here's some of my favorites of the moment:

Songs

1- "Man of the World"- Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac
2- "Who Loves the Sun"- Velvet Underground
3- "Ashes of American Flags"- Wilco
4- "Karma Police"- Radiohead
5- "Even Less"-Porcupine Tree

Maybe I'm just drained from all this excitement over the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series, something I wondered if I'd ever see in my lifetime. I watched some of the parade on TV, probably would've gone if I didn't have so much stuff going on.

What Happens Next?

Okay, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in 86 years. The "Curse is Reversed" if it even existed. Everyone who waited their whole lives for this moment is vindicated, finally. It's amazing when you see people who normally walk around with their heads down, sulking and surly, walking around with their heads held high, smiling proudly! The world didn't come to an end, the sun rose in the East, the postman came, and everything seemed normal. It's a bit surreal, like something out of a David Lynch movie. Somehow I expected a descendant of one of those "Hobbit-Sized" people of Indonesia to show up and everything would have rewound about 10,000 years!

World Series Update

Slow tonight, I'm watching Pedro Martinez throw the game he would have loved to against the Yankees in the ALCS. Looks interesting, 4-0 Sox in the seventh. Two on, nobody out, the lefty coming in to face "Big Papi" Ortiz.

What a Weekend!

Let's see, this Ashlee Simpson chick totally lip-synchs on Saturday Night Live as the background tape loops or something. Jon Stewart tells off CNN and 60 Minutes. The Red Sox make 8 errors in two games, yet still manage to win both sending the World Series to St. Louis with a two games to nothing lead! Curt Schilling's ankle lasts another six innings, even though it's held together with stitches and a bloody sock! The New England Patriots make it into the NFL record books (finally) with their 18th straight regular season victory (21 overall including playoffs!)

Sox Beat Yankees 10-3, World Series Bound

I'm still in a fog because I wasn't sure they'd do it, but Saturday starts the real test. Don't think I've ever really believed in this curse thing, but something happened in 1986 that just wasn't possible without some kind of intervention. This is the best Sox team in years, possibly decades.
I'm excited to see what happens come Saturday, Game 1 at Fenway.

This Is Surreal

Right now I'm watching Game 7 and it's really starting to scare me. It's in the 4th Inning with the Sox leading 8-1 on the strength of two home runs by Johnny (Captain Caveman) Damon!

People Take Pictures of Each Other

Tonight's class we took pictures of each other, using lighting diagrams and ideas that we came up with as an assignment. It was weird, because the pictures didn't look anything at all like me. I've shot a couple of self-portraits and in countless family and travel pictures, I've always looked like myself. Even my driver's license looks like me. But for some reason, the pictures one of my classmates took of me looked like somebody else. Is this strange of me to think this? Or is it something that happens all the time and nobody ever says anything?

And It Continues...

Well it looks like the Sox pulled out another marathon extra-inning game! Ortiz gets the base hit with runners on first and second to send the series back to NYC! Too bad I have school tomorrow night!

Damn, They Sucked Me In Again!

Just when I thought I was through with the Red Sox, they pull me back in! Yeah, I know I'm fracturing a quote from The Godfather. I thought it was over Saturday night and here I am on Monday night watching yet another extra inning game. I'm not cut out for this. It's like torture!

Still can't believe I got this close to them!

Fall Sunday Realization

The leaves are changing and starting to fall. There's a crispness in the air that makes me think winter can't be too far off. I'm not ready for it! The baseball playoffs are on and football season is in full swing. Pats are 5-0 now!
Shot a few pictures today and I was really surprised how a couple of Swans in the water let me get so close to the edge of the bank.

Krispy Kreme, Red Sox, and Victims of Photography

Today I went to Krispy Kreme for the first time in a couple of months. Those donuts are really addictive! I could probably eat the whole dozen at once, but then I'd be a real fat-ass! There, I had to stop in the middle of a post to grab another one. What do they put in these things?
Well I'm looking forward to the game at Fenway tonight, but I won't make any predictions. I'd like to see a Sox victory, but the way they're hitting this series...who knows?
I'm still trying to get my photography assignment done, and still looking for someone for my portrait assignment. I thought about asking another friend, but decided against it because she might think I'm trying to pick her up.

"His goal in life was to be an echo..."

As you may have guessed, I'm listening to the new Wilco CD and the above line in the song "Hummingbird" gets me thinking. I'd rather be a reverb soaked open string or something like that. Actually the echo thing kind of sums up my whole mindset at this point in time. I'm trying to find time to relax in the midst of all these things that are going on around me!

More from the Studio

Yesterday was a good experience, but now I have to find someone to bring into the studio for a portrait shoot. So I guess I need a victim (oops) I mean volunteer! It's going to make the next few days interesting, to say the least.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

There's just a pile of pictures on my computer that I need to work with. I've got over a hundred from my Oregon trip (see below), not to mention the ones I shot this past weekend at the Columbus Day parade. I just don't have enough time to process them.
Had my first photo shoot with a model tonight. I've shot pictures of friends, family and random people on the street before, but never actually brought someone into a studio. She was very patient with the class and brought a few different outfits so everybody's pictures didn't look the same.

Street Photography

Spent today shooting pictures at the Columbus Day Parade and it was fun! Started off taking a couple of shots on the way to the parade route. After making my way to the staging area before the start of the parade, I took quite a few shots of various clowns, musicians, buildings, and other people. That was the most fun! I really enjoyed this adventure and find myself looking forward to another event I can shoot.

This site is cool

but it's addictive! Check out Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson in gallery one!

Holiday Weekend!

I'm off from the Day Job for the next few days, looking at a photoshoot at the Columbus Day parade, a weekend of baseball and a Pats/Dolphins game on Sunday. Should be a fun weekend!

My Boring Life

Actually that's what I was going to call this blog, but I figured it was already taken. Also thought to call it "My Stupid Words"
Anyway, I feel like the most boring person on the face of the Earth. Here I am, somewhat creative, but more inclined to web surf with the TV on. I'm sort of listening to the baseball game as I write this, when instead I have about a hundred pictures from my trip last week that need to be color corrected or touched up.
I also have an assignment for my photography class, so I need an idea for that.

Light and Shadows

Spent some time thinking about lighting set ups after my last class. I'm trying to envision the photograph I want to shoot next week, when we're working with a model. A hard light gives a more dramatic effect, but a softer light seems to look better. Maybe it's just me, but I would've rather shot a few frames first to see what kind of light was necessary.

I'm Back

So I couldn't find any internet access in Oregon! Suppose I should've bought that Powerbook instead... There were hookups in the rooms at the ranch, and at the airport in Portland, so I would've been able to post if I had a computer with me. I could picture myself with a carry-on and a camera bag, with a G4 tower under one arm, Not!

Anyways, I've got plenty of pictures and plan on posting a few here after some minor Photoshopping!
