Best of 2006

It's that time of year again, where the holiday season has come to an end and the new year is upon us. The unenviable position of aspiring photographer, professional wage-slave, and amateur noise maker has brought upon me the task of choosing my favorite music of 2006. This year saw my release of two mp3 singles "Garage#2" and "Gansett Wave," the latter of which reached a peak of number nine in the Soundclick surf music charts, despite having an awkward, out of time opening sequence. The scariest part of that whole episode is that people actually downloaded the songs. For what? Anyway, here's to the best music that I found in 2006:

Thom Yorke - "The Eraser" It's been in regular rotation in my CD player and my iPod. Can't wait for the next Radiohead!
The Raconteurs - "Broken Boy Soldiers" I'm a big fan of The White Stripes and I think this project takes Jack White's genius to another level!
Pearl Jam - "Pearl Jam" It seems to me they regained their bearings with this offering, bridging the ten year gap between this and their last great CD!
The Pixies - "Acoustic Live In Newport" Okay it's a DVD and I'm still pissed I had commitments and couldn't go to this show and this almost makes up for it!
The Beatles - "Love" An interesing re-interpretation of classics, with amazing sound quality. Hey Capitol Records, this is what The Beatles should sound like on CD, so go back and remaster the whole catalog so the songs don't sound like muddy shit!

Honorable Mention:
Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs - "Under the Covers Vol. 1" A nice collection of covers by two talented artists.
KT Tunstall - "Eye To The Telescope" A talented songwriter and energetic performer who makes me look forward to hearing more.

Now The Holidays Are Over......

and things are starting to get back to the semi-controlled chaos that life invariably becomes! This is the first weekend in over a month I have no constrains on my time. So I can finally concentrate on completing some projects, getting things in order and looking forward to a happy and healthy New Year.

For A Bunch Of Outtakes?

Wow! I don't doubt it's rarity, but $126,000 for a 40 year old piece of vinyl. I've heard the stories of how the master tapes were either burned or thrown in the East River or something, so I suppose this is the closest anyone could get to them today (unless that was all bullshit and Lou Reed has them in his garage!) Unless you can come up with the money it'll take to get the rights to release it, it's just a trophy!
